Fixing Tampa Bay's Third

If you're siding with those who think the Lightning's new third jersey could use some work, today's concept post is for you. Kevin Dion has a simple fix that tackles the prime complaints — the wordmark crest and too much black.

Meanwhile, we get concepts on back-to-back days from Tristan Mani, who actually put together this prediction last week. But it also works as a fix.

I like the blue sleeves on both jerseys, but the blue and silver waist stripes on Tristan's win it for me. Which of the two do you prefer?

Boston Brown

I love this design. Tristan Mani may have envisioned it as a Winter Classic sweater prior to the announcement of the Capitals' 2015 opponent, but it would make for an epic third jersey, would it not? Get on this one, Boston.

NHL Soccer Crossover

Over the last two SportSwap Sundays, we've seen what soccer teams would look like with hockey uniforms. Today, Matt McElroy puts a twist on that idea with a look at what hockey teams might look like with soccer uniforms. And I have to say NHL team branding goes surprisingly well with soccer kits. Or maybe Matt's just that good.

Stadium Series Preview

If last year's NHL Stadium Series jerseys were any indication, this concept by Brandon Holmes is probably what we'll see when the Kings and Sharks get together at Levi's Stadium in February. What do you think?

Bolt Out Friday

Freak Out Friday is taking a hiatus this week as I catch a plane to attend the unveiling of the Tampa Bay Lightning's new third jersey. Let's call it Bolt Out Friday!

Since the new sweater will be black, I have a trio of black concept jerseys to share today. First up is the above design by Kris Lutes. A lot of folks are talking about something that keeps the "BOLTS" crest but with an overall retro feel. This pretty much nails that.

Then there's this one by Caleb Fuller which has some cool arcing bolts of electricity near the collar. The team's sneak peek photos sort of discount this idea, unfortunately.

And finally, Matt Madore presents more a home/road set here that combines old and new.

Be sure to keep an eye on the blog and Twitter for updates on tomorrow's unveiling!
