Blue and Grey

Around here we talk a lot about the idea of NHL teams without white jerseys. For some, it makes sense. But it just isn't necessary anymore. The World Cup is proof of that. Fans can tell the teams apart even if one is not wearing white.

Today, Matt McElroy shares this idea for a Columbus Blue Jackets jersey set free of white. I think it looks pretty sharp. How about you?

Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg

Sundays are getting a new series starting today. Readers have been asking me to feature more concepts for teams from outside of North America. I'm now starting to receive enough submissions to make that happen.

Robb Clarke gets us off the ground with a team from the KHL — the Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg. Below is a photo of their existing uniforms.

Michigan Pride

It's a College Saturday double-header from Alan John Herbert starring the Spartans and Wolverines. Alan proposes these jerseys for an outdoor game between the big schools from Michigan.

When the two got together at Spartan Stadium in 2001, they set a world record for the largest crowd at a hockey game with almost 75,000. In 2010, a rematch was held at Michigan Stadium before a crowd of more than 104,000 — a record which still stands today.

Phreaky Phila

The hockey universe is centered on Philadelphia this Freak Out Friday for the opening round of the NHL Draft. In honor of that, allow me to present a unique take on the Flyers by John Elbertson. Third jersey rumors, anyone?

Original Six Showdown, Part 1

Another Thursday throwback miniseries debuts today from Nick Burton. His 3-part Original Six Showdown features some excellent designs inspired by the past. Up first are the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens. (Use the arrows to switch between the two concepts.)
