A Bastian of Third Jerseys

Bastian Schmülling Week continues with a series of alternate sweaters. Ever since the 2010 Winter Classic, I've been waiting for the Bruins to introduce a yellow third jersey. Is now the time?

The Lightning will unveil a new third jersey next season. Will it be black? If it looks like this, I sure wouldn't mind.

And how about a grey Sharks jersey? The Stadium series proved grey could look good on the ice. I think it would look even better with a splash of color in the stripes — as opposed to the black and white we saw with the Kings.

Tomorrow is all about the yellow jersey.

A Bastian of Tradition

This entire week's worth of concept art revolves around one guy. Bastian Schmülling is by far one of the most prolific designers submitting work to Icethetics. But it's not just sheer volume that makes Bastian stand out. It's his attention to detail and his eye for a great hockey sweater.

His work has a very traditional and classic sense. I selected these three designs to display today because I think they're a good representation of his particular style. I could see that Blues jersey on NHL ice tomorrow.

Even these Senators and Oilers designs are sharp designs the quality of which is being lost in today's modern Reebok-based NHL. It's great to see someone thinking like this.

As promised, this entire week will be filled with Bastian's designs — and even at three concepts per day we'll still only be scratching the surface of his volume of work. But there's definitely some great stuff to come. Each day will feature a special theme.

Hope you guys like his work as much as I do or this could be a difficult week!

Fixing the Sabres' New Third Jersey

Today, we attempt to fix the Buffalo Sabres' widely despised new third jersey. Kevin Garrigan is up first, making the adjustments you see above.

Next we have former IceHL AGM Austin Ell with another.

Ok, I confess. This is one of the many April Fools' Day jokes you're finding all over the web today. Anyone will tell you there's no fixing that jersey. They'll tell you it's unfixable. (Or if they're me, they'll simply tell you it doesn't need fixing.)

So how about a real concept?

How's that for a yellow Sabres third jersey? Bastian Schmülling usually hits the mark with his classic style. By the way, I hope you guys like that style because you're going to be seeing an awful lot of Bastian's work next week. I have 28 of his concepts (you read that right) ready to post beginning Monday.

Not So Rebellious

Lest we have a week go by without a little something from Bastian Schmülling. Recently, someone asked to see a Red Deer Rebels concept on the site. I thought surely no one's taken the time. But of course Bastian has designed something for just about every team you can imagine. I may have to dedicate and entire week to him sometime soon.

The title of this post refers to Bastian's traditional jersey design style — which probably has a lot to do with why his concepts are always so highly rated. What do you guys think? Bastian Week?

Modern Yet Classic

The always prolific Bastian Schmülling presents us with another excellent concept. Many would agree the Penguins desperately need new uniforms. Some want to see the team go back to their '80s-era sweaters, but something more modern is more likely. I think what Bastian has created is the perfect happy medium between the two.
