NHL100 Classic set for Ottawa

The NHL's Centennial celebration will culminate on Dec. 16, 2017 with the Ottawa Senators hosting the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL100 Classic, a special outdoor game designed to commemorate the league's biggest milestone yet — it's 100th birthday.

It's an unusual name, right? Perhaps the league didn't want to schedule a second Centennial Classic and thereby confuse fans. And maybe too soon for another Heritage Classic? So it's the NHL100 Classic. All right then.

The event will take place at Lansdowne Park, home of the Canadian Football League's RedBlacks. And it comes at the convergence of three other significant milestones — Canada's 150th, the Stanley Cup's 125th, and the Senators' 25th anniversaries.

No word on uniforms for the game just yet, but it's probably safe to bet on something special. It could be the first set of non-primary team uniforms from Adidas, who takes over production of sweaters next season. Alternate jerseys will be taking a year off while Adidas gets up to speed.
