Red Wings unveil 2016 Stadium Series jersey

It's finally here! The Detroit Red Wings officially unveiled their 2016 NHL Stadium Series jersey online this afternoon.

This is the team's third outdoor uniform since their Winter Classic debut in 2009 — and the first ever to feature a more futuristic design aesthetic.

As expected, the red sweater features the previously leaked crest design — a white sash element across the chest with a styled red "D" seemingly inspired by the original Detroit Cougars logo from 1926.

Like the other Stadium Series jerseys we've seen so far, it has oversized sleeve and back numbers and the new collar style introduced this season.

The overall look is very simple and clean with large blocks of color and very little in terms of minor details — the "RED WINGS" type on the collar being the notable exception. The idea is that the jersey will mainly be seen by fans in the stadium setting from farther away than normal.

And that's that. Here are the jerseys for the NHL Stadium Series game in Colorado on Feb. 27, 2016. What do you think?

But wait... there's more! In related news, the Chicago Blackhawks released a handful of teaser images previewing their Stadium Series jersey. They play in Minnesota on Feb. 21, 2016. Through a series of tweets, the team revealed the following images.

The jersey will be white and seems to go heavy on the black — less so on the red. But keep in mind the Black Hawks originally wore black and white only uniforms. And keep in mind both of the Stadium Series jerseys from Detroit and Colorado are futuristic designs inspired by the past.

By the way, the Hawks did confirm that the design will not, in fact, look like this Icethetics concept submission from Nick Burton. Thanks to @DCONN24 for asking.
