2015-16 Season Preview: The Major Juniors

Hockey season is imminent for the junior teams of the Canadian Hockey League and there are a few new logos to talk about before the games get underway. Let's begin on my coast!

The Western Hockey League is 50 years old this season. To mark the milestone, the league is utilizing this 50th anniversary logo — which pays tribute to its original shield design.

The Prince George Cougars revealed new logos and uniforms way back on June 3 and somehow I managed to completely avoid any coverage on the blog. Apologies for that. It's a shame too because it's a pretty cool logo — though I don't imagine it'll take long for the ThunderCats comments to roll in. The jerseys aren't bad either.

Moving on to the Ontario Hockey League, the Plymouth Whalers are now the Flint Firebirds. The new identity was revealed back in March.

The Belleville Bulls have relocated and adopted the Hamilton Bulldogs identity vacated by the American Hockey League. They will also wear the same uniforms previously used in the AHL.

And lastly, the Mississauga Steelheads recently debuted a new logo, expanding their identity.

There are no new logos being used in the QMJHL this season. So that wraps it up. Short and sweet. What do you think of the new looks introduced for 2015-16?

UPDATE · Sep 26 · Thanks to the commenters below for reminding me about a couple more updates for the new season in the WHL.

The Kelowna Rockets are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year with throwback logos and uniforms! The designs were unveiled on Aug. 24.

Then on Thursday, just after this post was written, the Kamloops Blazers revealed their new primary uniforms, showcasing a more traditional style.

Let me know if you guys spot anything else I may have skipped over.
