0017: Black for the Blackhawks Revisited

The Chicago Blackhawks' uniforms are among the most recognizable in all of sports. Because of that, it's always difficult to propose a new concept. The designers of the Hawks' 2009 Winter Classic uniform proved they were equal to the task. But after two years of using it as a third jersey, the team has let the black go by the wayside. Kris Lutes wants to bring it back — but with a few changes that make it look a little more like a Blackhawks sweater. I think he managed.

0016: Mixing Old & New in SoCal

Colin May proposes mixing the old and new for the Anaheim Ducks. Back in the late '90s, the Mighty Ducks, as they were known, used a sweater design quite similar to these. Think they looked better in jade and eggplant or the more modern orange and black? What do you think of the old logo coming back? (And before you comment on the misspelling of Selanne... we know.)

It's not uncommon for concept posts to yield lots of suggestions from readers for revisions. Every now and then, the artist will take a few cues from their critics and I'm always more than happy to add their revised work to the original post. Here's what Colin had to say:

Hey everyone, thanks for your compliments and feedback.

I made [the original] concept a long while ago. I have since updated it to feature the D logo on the chest. I also made up a Wild Wing alternate to go with these, complete with the duck mask shoulder patch that Bryan Wright mentioned.

To other concept artists: If your work has been featured and you'd like to submit a revision, feel free to do so.

0015: Christmas Classic

Welcome to the other half of our Winter Classic Weekend. This one from Alex Valvo poses an interesting notion. What if the Maple Leafs opted for uniforms styled after the Toronto St. Pats? That would probably give us a holiday-themed Winter Classic just a week removed from Christmas Day. But given that Toronto's colors are blue and white these days, I'm not sure it's a viable option — though this very uniform was worn for a game back in 2002.

For the other part of this set, Alex gives us another throwback. Prior to the 1980s, the Winged Wheel was never exactly centered on Detroit's sweaters. In fact, the middle of the wheel part of the logo was used as the center.

0014: Vintage White Classic

It's another Winter Classic Weekend and today is all about the vintage white, as you can see in Kevin Garrigan's proposal. This one isn't dissimilar from the one posted last Sunday in that its based on uniforms that are nearly a century old. However, Kevin is trying to show the age by using "vintage white." He's also gone with a light jersey for the home team (Detroit) and a dark one for the road club (Toronto).
